Just read your posts from last year. I only just joined the forum. I work as an Assistant Psychologist in Salisbury. It sounds like we may be interested in similar things: I want to specialise in learning disabilites and also am studying an MSc in Research Methods following my BSc in Psychology. It would be great to meet up, are you coming to the meeting planned for 16th February in Poole?
Hi Lawrence
Greetings from Dorchester! Yes we do seem to be following a similar trend with our interests, and I would certainly welcome the opportunity to meet up for a chat. I am not aware of the meeting in Poole - I would certainly enjoy being present there, but as yet I have not secured a position as assistant psychologist, so I am unsure as to whether I would be permitted to attend?

Hi James
The meeting is planned for Friday 16th Feb, 9.30 to 12.30 at St Anns hospital in Poole. Phil has organised for some trainees from Exeter to talk and I'm going to present some stuff about my job in cancer services. I recently volunteered to help Phil coordinate the group and I am certain that the meetings and the group as a whole is open to anyone interested in pursuing clinical psychology as a career. Whether you have an Ap job doesn't matter, in fact the meetings will be good chances to find out if AP jobs are going anywhere!
Hope to see you there.
Lawrence

Lawrence, I would be delighted to attend the meeting !
The AP presentation sounds fascinating as a whole - I have volunteered as a healthcare assistant at a hospice at Dorchester in the past, so a presentation of your experiences working in cancer services will be of especial interest to me.

Hi James
Sorry you missed the meeting in Poole, we will send out notes of the discussions to everyone soon. You might notice a few changes to this site, I basically deleted a few of the threads from 2 years ago and the forums nobody was using at all. Hope this is ok!
All the best

By way of an introduction - I'm Lawrence and I recently volunteered to help Phil and Beccy out co-ordinating our group. I work as an assistant psychologist at Salisbury District Hospital, and I'm currently applying for the doctorate course.
I look forward to seeing you all at our meetings!!!
Cheers

Hi Lawrence,
I'm sorry - I have recently applied for a job and was expecting to hear back today as to whether I had an interview at short notice, and was told to be available by phone. Thus I decided I couldn't make it to the meeting at Poole.......I never heard back about the job and am very sad I missed todays meeting I will do my best to meet up with you at the next available opportunity. The changes to the forum look great by the way. In the meantime I wish you the very best of luck with your clinical application

Cheers mate! Sorry to hear you didn't get the call about that job. It can be hard work getting an assistant post (if that's what you applied for?!), but keep trying! You'll get a copy of our notes from the meeting so that's ok.

Hello everyone!
My name is Laura and I joined the group last week! I am currently an Assistant Psychologist working for a private organisation called Truecare Ltd (residential homes for adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems), but am about to start a new position at Tatchbury Mount in Calmore, nr Southampton. This will again be working with adults with learning disabilities, but I will also be working on a forensic unit.
It was actually my new supervisor (Dr John Williams) who suggested I join this group at my job interview. I have been meaning to for a while, but working for Truecare I have been based in Fareham and Reading, which means I have spent most of the past 15 months in my car! I hope to have a little more free time with this new job.
Anyway I plan to come to the next meeting on Friday 27th at Salisbury District. I will also be attending the Body and Mind Conference there next Monday 23rd if anyone else is planning to go, and would like to meet up and say hi? I look forward to meeting everyone!
Laura

Hi, I'm Lauren, just joined the group last week!
I'm still doing my psychology undergrad degree, but currently on a placement year at Shelley Clinic in Boscombe.
Definately plan on doing the Clinical training in the future, and I was told this group would be good to join!
Look forward to meeting you all!

Hey guys, just secured a job as an assistant clinical psychologist working for the Dorset healthcare Trust. My role will predominantly serve those with learning difficulties in West Dorset, primarily Dorchester, Bridport and Weymouth.
Look forward to meeting any of you attending the ‘Mindfulness’ in Counselling and Psychotherapy seminar held at Salisbury this November. It is definitely a particular interest of mine, having been an avid practitioner for about 3 years.
