Introductions...

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread to introduce ourselves to each other - I know we do it at the meetings, but maybe it'd be good for people who missed the last meeting and for those of us who are interested but forget who everyone is as soon as they've said it! Embarassed
I reckon it'd be good to write a bit about "Some of you may remember me from..." Just to jog people's memories! Wink

So I'll start:
I'm Tina and I work as a Psychology Research Assistant for the Dorset HealthCare NHS Trust Addiction Service. Some of you may remember me from the last meeting, as it was my supervisor, Gerald Bennett who did a talk on addictions.
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

I'm the group co-ordinator (until September), I work as a Research Psychology Assistant in Dorchester. For those who came to the last meeting I was the one who talked forever.

I'm going to try and set this thread so it always remains on the top of the group news and doesn't get lost down the page.
Jarna

Hi!

I'm Jarna and I work as research psychology assistant in older adults' mental health services. You may remember me from the last meeting: I sat next to Adrian (the one who spoke a lot Wink ) and I will also be sharing the fun task of co-ordinating the AP-group with Tina & Lee once Adrian leaves for his training (good luck! Very Happy ).

My mission statement: to leave before Adrian does!

Tina, you beat me to it!

me and you really are getting a bit too much alike...

introductions

Shocked Hi, I'm Julie, the newest newie. Joined about three minutes ago so not had the experience of any meetings yet but I am working with Tina as Research assistant in addictions. Look forward to meeting you all. Very Happy
Adrian

Okay, guess we'll all meet you in a few weeks.

How's Westborune going Tina/Phil? Jarna suggested all the Bournemouth and surrounding AP's should try and meet up sometime. Sounds a good idea if someone wants to organise time/place, etc.

I think Phil now has the best Avatar - I feel I need to upgrade mine just to compete...
Tina

Westbourne's fab thanks! Really enjoying being near the sea and lots of shops, and really enjoying the lie-in I'm getting from the short journey to work in the morning!!

I like the sound of meeting up, do you mean during the day or would we actually venture out into evenings or maybe weekends? Or is that far too informal?!! Wink

Have you sorted out somewhere to live yet? Crikey, only a couple of weeks left eh?! Shocked

I still think my avatar is best...
Adrian

I think more evening/weekend if that's not too crazy.

Jarna (who is kicking my chair as we speak) said she was referring to the evenings as well.
Tina

Oooh, slightly crazy, but it'd be great to go out of an evening!!

We could also make sure you get a good send-off before you go jet-setting across the country (you'll no longer be living in the wes'coun'ry)?
Very Happy
Adrian

I know I've got to learn to speak like Alan Partridge now.

Do you want to come up with some dates that suit you and Phil and we'll see how myself and Jarna fit in with those?

I'm also aware of Kelly, Lisa, Leanne and Louise? who are other AP's in the area so we should mention it to them as well and any others I've missed out.
James

Hello, I am James

I have now taken on the role of moderator and contributer for the Wessex AP group forum, for the previous admin staff have now embarked upon Clinical training in other areas of the country. I have just graduated from Cardiff with a BSc in Psychology and will be looking to start a career and/or further research in the very near future. In the meantime, I will try to make myself useful here and if anyone has any questions I would be more than happy to help.

Nice to meet you all Very Happy

Hi James,

Congrats on getting through your undergrad, are you planning on running the clinical training gauntlet?

Phil
James

Hello Phil

no I don't think clinical psychology is for me, my plan is to become a researcher (causal learning) or possibly specialise in an applied field such as learning disabilities or counselling. Having completed my first degree I am now in the process or choosing a suitable postgraduate route to study - most likely an MSc to begin with.
James

I should perhaps add that if I intend on specialising in the area of learning disabilities then I will naturally be required to train as a clinical psychologist!

Hi James

Just read your posts from last year. I only just joined the forum. I work as an Assistant Psychologist in Salisbury. It sounds like we may be interested in similar things: I want to specialise in learning disabilites and also am studying an MSc in Research Methods following my BSc in Psychology. It would be great to meet up, are you coming to the meeting planned for 16th February in Poole?

Hi Lawrence

Greetings from Dorchester! Yes we do seem to be following a similar trend with our interests, and I would certainly welcome the opportunity to meet up for a chat. I am not aware of the meeting in Poole - I would certainly enjoy being present there, but as yet I have not secured a position as assistant psychologist, so I am unsure as to whether I would be permitted to attend?
lawrence

please attend if possible!

Hi James

The meeting is planned for Friday 16th Feb, 9.30 to 12.30 at St Anns hospital in Poole. Phil has organised for some trainees from Exeter to talk and I'm going to present some stuff about my job in cancer services. I recently volunteered to help Phil coordinate the group and I am certain that the meetings and the group as a whole is open to anyone interested in pursuing clinical psychology as a career. Whether you have an Ap job doesn't matter, in fact the meetings will be good chances to find out if AP jobs are going anywhere!

Hope to see you there.
Lawrence
James

Lawrence, I would be delighted to attend the meeting !

The AP presentation sounds fascinating as a whole - I have volunteered as a healthcare assistant at a hospice at Dorchester in the past, so a presentation of your experiences working in cancer services will be of especial interest to me.
lawrence

Hi James

Sorry you missed the meeting in Poole, we will send out notes of the discussions to everyone soon. You might notice a few changes to this site, I basically deleted a few of the threads from 2 years ago and the forums nobody was using at all. Hope this is ok!

All the best

Hello my name is...

By way of an introduction - I'm Lawrence and I recently volunteered to help Phil and Beccy out co-ordinating our group. I work as an assistant psychologist at Salisbury District Hospital, and I'm currently applying for the doctorate course.

I look forward to seeing you all at our meetings!!!

Cheers Rolling Eyes
James

Hi Lawrence,

I'm sorry - I have recently applied for a job and was expecting to hear back today as to whether I had an interview at short notice, and was told to be available by phone. Thus I decided I couldn't make it to the meeting at Poole.......I never heard back about the job and am very sad I missed todays meeting Sad I will do my best to meet up with you at the next available opportunity. The changes to the forum look great by the way. In the meantime I wish you the very best of luck with your clinical application Smile

Cheers mate! Sorry to hear you didn't get the call about that job. It can be hard work getting an assistant post (if that's what you applied for?!), but keep trying! Smile You'll get a copy of our notes from the meeting so that's ok.

Hello everyone!

My name is Laura and I joined the group last week! I am currently an Assistant Psychologist working for a private organisation called Truecare Ltd (residential homes for adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems), but am about to start a new position at Tatchbury Mount in Calmore, nr Southampton. This will again be working with adults with learning disabilities, but I will also be working on a forensic unit.

It was actually my new supervisor (Dr John Williams) who suggested I join this group at my job interview. I have been meaning to for a while, but working for Truecare I have been based in Fareham and Reading, which means I have spent most of the past 15 months in my car! I hope to have a little more free time with this new job.

Anyway I plan to come to the next meeting on Friday 27th at Salisbury District. I will also be attending the Body and Mind Conference there next Monday 23rd if anyone else is planning to go, and would like to meet up and say hi? I look forward to meeting everyone!

Hi!!

Hi, I'm Lauren, just joined the group last week!

I'm still doing my psychology undergrad degree, but currently on a placement year at Shelley Clinic in Boscombe.

Definately plan on doing the Clinical training in the future, and I was told this group would be good to join!

Look forward to meeting you all!  Very Happy

Greetings fellow psychonauts

Hey guys, just secured a job as an assistant clinical psychologist working for the Dorset healthcare Trust. My role will predominantly serve those with learning difficulties in West Dorset, primarily Dorchester, Bridport and Weymouth.

Look forward to meeting any of you attending the ‘Mindfulness’ in Counselling and Psychotherapy seminar held at Salisbury this November. It is definitely a particular interest of mine, having been an avid practitioner for about 3 years.

Regards,

Rick
